HPC in Europe. How many and where?
In 2025 where are Europe’s supercomputers and how are they organised. A list that seems to be growing with quantum computing.
Let’s start the journey!
First of all there is the EUROHPC JU, an acronym that means the European High Performance Computing Joint Undertaking, a Europena body established in 2018 with the mission to position Europe as a global leader in supercomputing.
By pooling resources from the European Union, 35 participating states, and private members, EuroHPC JU is developing a world-leading HPC and quantum computing infrastructure in Europe.
No matter where in Europe they are located, European scientists and users can benefit from these EuroHPC supercomputers to advance science and support the development of a wide range of applications with industrial, scientific and societal relevance for Europe.
EuroHPC JU also invests in Research and Innovation to develop sovereign and competitive HPC hardware, optimise applications and boost skills. Since 2024, EuroHPC JU received a new mandate to develop and operate AI factories to support the growth od a highly competitive and innovative AI ecosystem in Europe.
